Memorial Park Section B:

After several Parks and Recreation Commission meetings and community meetings concerning issues of dogs in Albany’s parks, the Commission submitted and the Council approved an ordinance that would allow the City to state days and times when no dogs are allowed in designated areas in Albany’s parks. The new ordinance can be found in Albany’s Dog TagsMunicipal Code 10.4.2b.

The ordinance reads:

It shall be unlawful for dogs to be in designated areas during designated times and days in Albany’s parks as set forth by the Albany City Council. The specific days, areas, and hours shall be adopted by resolution after considering recommendations from the Parks and Recreation Commission. At no time shall dogs be permitted inside the play structure areas at any of Albany’s parks.

December 2013, the Albany City Council voted to allow dogs in Section B at Memorial Park from 11:00am to 8:00pm seven days per week.

Dogs are not allowed in Section A at Memorial Park ball field at any time.

Annual Field Closure

The City of Albany closes its sports fields annually to give the grass time to “rest” and rejuvenate. This is a critical step in the City’s maintenance plan to ensure the fields are properly maintained due to the heavy wear and tear they endure February through November each year.

Section B at Memorial Park will be closed  December 1, 2022 through February, 2023. Pending the condition of the grass, Section B could be closed for extended periods in the Fall and Spring.
