The Confederated Villages of Lisjan Flag Raising
For thousands of years, hundreds of generations, the Lisjan Ohlone people have lived on the land that is now known as the East Bay in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Confederated Villages of Lisjan is one of many Ohlone tribes, each with its own geography and history.
On October 11, 2021, Indigenous Peoples Day, Albany community members gathered to recognize and celebrate the raising of the Confederated Villages of Lisjan flag at City Hall, which will be flown permanently in accordance with Resolution 2021-75 which was adopted by the Albany City Council on September 20, 2021.
Indigenous Peoples Day in Albany Made City Holiday
On May 3, 2021, Albany City Council approved that the City of Albany permanently refer to the holiday formerly known as Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples Day. See the Council Meeting where this was decided: City Council Meeting - May 3, 2021.

On Monday, September 20, 2021, Corrina Gould, tribal spokesperson for the Confederated Villages of Lisjan Ohlone provided an overview of the Lisjan Ohlone people that have lived in the land that is now known as the East Bay in the San Francisco Bay Area. This included cultural and geographic information as well as a history of the Lisjan Ohlone people from the beginning of time to the present day.
