Albany Police Department wants our community to know we stand against any type of hate and are here to support and protect our community. We believe as a community we can all pull together and support one another by our daily actions and gestures of kindness.

The police department is committed to upholding our community’s values, and pledges to vigorously respond to reports of hate related incidents and prosecute crimes motivated by hatred or bias.

The Albany Police Department also affirms that the undue enforcement of immigration violations by local police erodes and damages the public trust that is so vital to maintaining public safety for all. The immigration status of individuals alone is generally not a matter for police action.

Albany Police are prohibited from contacting, detaining, or arresting someone based solely on the suspicion that an individual is undocumented. Targeting non-criminals jeopardizes our ability to protect our community. We do not enforce federal law – it’s not our job.
