Addressing the City Council at a Meeting
The Brown Act provides that every regular Council meeting provide an opportunity for the public to address the City Council on any item within its jurisdiction before or during the Council's consideration of the item, provided no action be taken on any item not on the agenda. Each member of the public will be allowed an opportunity for public comment. All persons wishing to speak on an item on the agenda are to fill out speaker cards and provide to the City Clerk.
Items Not on the City Council Agenda
Members of the public have the opportunity to address the City Council on matters not on the agenda under "Good of the City" at every City Council meeting. City policy limits each speaker to three (3) minutes. The Mayor may reduce the time limit per speaker depending on the number of speakers. The Brown Act limits the Council’s ability to take and/or discuss items that are not on the agenda; therefore, such items are normally referred to staff for comment or to a future agenda.
Correspond to the Council Regarding Items on the Agenda
