Community Building

Getting to know one’s neighbors is a start. When neighbors interact—through block parties, home-garden produce sharing, or book club meetings—connections are formed between people and trust is built. Such social capital can lead to a stronger, safer community, a community where its members have a greater sense of belonging.

The City of Albany would like to work together with residents to create new ways to build connections between neighbors. We invite you to share your ideas and stories of how you and your neighbors get together, share resources and build community in Albany.

A few ways to meet the neighbors:

Swap Events: Time to clean out those closets, gather up extra sporting equipment and pick that extra produce!

Break the Ice: Go ahead, we dare you to ring the door bell and meet the neighbor!

Forage & Plunder: Help make an Edible Map of Albany

Yahoo/Google Groups: Connect with neighbors in the City

Backyard Chickens: When was the last time you borrowed an egg from your neighbor? Do you know your neighbor? Did you know that the City of Albany allows you to keep up to six hens (no roosters) in your backyard?
