Household hazardous waste (HHW) materials such as paints, pesticides, fertilizers, propane tanks and cleaners are not allowed in your trash, recycling or organics carts. These materials have toxic properties that require careful disposal by a certified facility.
One-Day Drop-off Events
The City of Albany partners with the Alameda County Household Hazardous Waste Program to host free one-day hazardous waste collection events at Golden Gate Fields twice per year. The County hosts additional collection events throughout the county, open to all Alameda County residents. You must register in advance to participate. Alameda County residents can drop off wastes they generated in the course of living in and maintaining their homes. For a list of materials accepted at the events, click here.

Drop Off Materials
Albany residents may also drop off materials for free at any of the four Alameda County Household Hazardous Waste facilities. Alameda County residents. How to Package
All materials must be packaged in sturdy, non-leaking, closed containers. No individual container may be greater than 5 gallons or 50 pounds in size. Do not mix different wastes in the same container.
How Much
State law limits the total amount you may transport in one vehicle to 125 pounds or 15 gallons. Wastes must be transported by a resident of the household which generated the waste.
