City of Albany General Municipal Election is to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020
November 2020 Election Results
Governor Newsom issued Executive Order N-64-20, which among other things orders the November 3, 2020 General Election to be conducted as an all-mail ballot election. Accordingly, all registered voters in California will receive a vote-by-mail ballot in the mail before the election. In-person locations (accessible voting locations) will still be available on Election Day. Please check the Official Election Site of Alameda County for additional and updated information.

Voter Information Guide is scheduled to be mailed to registered voters by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters between September 24 - October 13, 2020
Vote-by-Mail Ballot is scheduled to be mailed to registered voters by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters between October 5 - October 27, 2020. Vote-by-Mail ballots may also be obtained at the Alameda County Office of Registrar of Voters after October 5, 2020.
By law, the first day ballots can be mailed to voters is 29 days before an election (October 5, 2020). Ballots are mailed continuously during the 29 day period. Visit the Alameda County Office of Registrar of Voters website for Vote-by-Mail FAQs.
COVID-19 Updates for 2020 Election
Several Ways to Return your Vote-by-Mail Ballot:
(there will be none of the usual polling places this year)
- Send by USPS mail postmarked by the Election Day 11/3/2020.
- Drop off at the 24-Hour Drop Box located right outside of City Hall entrance on the parking lot side (1000 San Pablo Avenue)
- Early Voting Drop Stop Events held by the Registrar of Voters (Outreach Team will be present to answer questions at these events):
a. Tuesday 10/13 & Wednesday 10/14 between 10AM - 4PM outside of the Albany Library/Community Center (1249 Marin Avenue)
b. Tuesday 10/27 & Wednesday 10/28 between 10AM - 4PM outside of the Albany YMCA (921 Kains Avenue)

Persons interested in running for Albany Board of Education seat are encouraged to make an appointment with the City Clerk to obtain Candidate Nomination Packet.
NOMINATION PERIOD FOR PERSONS SEEKING CITY COUNCIL CANDIDACY HAS CLOSED.
Nomination Period:
July 13, 2020 to August 7, 2020 Please schedule an appointment with the City Clerk to obtain or file nomination paperwork.Extended Nomination Period:
If an incumbent eligible for re-election does not file, the nomination period is extended for that office to Wednesday, August 12, 2020.Nomination Papers are to be obtained and filed during this period. Alameda County Registrar of Voters Office will start updating election results shortly after 8 PM on November 3, 2020. 2020 Election results are available here.

Please note: the results of the election are to be certified no later than December 3, 2020.
The Albany City Council will ratify the results of the election as part of a City Council meeting in December 2020.
