Any construction work, permanent installation, or business conducted in the public right of way requires an Encroachment Permit. Examples of activity requiring an Encroachment Permit include, but are not limited to:
- Trenching in the street for new, repair to, or replacement of utility lines
- Replacement or repair to sidewalks, including drain work through the curb
- Construction or widening of a driveway approach
- Dumpsters or portable outdoor storage units/pods parked on the street
- Reserved Parking for moving or other events
- Sidewalk Vending (for more information - see our Sidewalk Vending Handout)
To obtain an Encroachment Permit, complete the appropriate application from the list below, and email with any required supporting documents to permits@albanyca.org for processing.
