Alameda County Measure A1 Funding for Affordable Housing
The Council held a study session and provided direction to staff on potential use of the City of Albany’s Measure A1 Base Allocation
Statement in Support of LBGTQ Community
The Mayor read a statement in Support of the LBGTQ Community as follows:
Once again a tweet from Washington has divided our country and sent a message of hate. The Albany City Council wants to reaffirm our statement of inclusivity and at this time let our LBGTQ community, especially our transgender community, know we stand with them. No one is a burden in our society. We appreciate your service in the military but more importantly we recognize and welcome you as valued members of our community.
Community Resource Center Update
The Council received an update on the Community Resource Center that will be housed at the Albany United Methodist Church Community Room at 980 Stannage Avenue (cross street Marin Avenue). The Community Resource Center is intended to help bridge the service information gap by creating a location within the City where residents can learn about services available and receive referrals and assistance to fulfill unmet needs. The Community Resource Center will be open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and will open on Friday, September 8, at 10:00 AM. There will also be an open house celebration as part of Albany Local Week on Friday, September 29 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Presentation on Changes to Elementary School Crossing Guard Program Pilot Program
The Council received information on proposed changes to the elementary school crossing guard program and requested that the program be funded to provide for a total of six crossing guards using City funds until January. The City will continue to look for alternative funding sources and work with the school district, UC Berkeley and other entities to find opportunities for collaboration and shared funding going forward.
Public Hearing on Proposal to increase monthly sewer service charges for purposes of environmental compliance
The Council held a public hearing and authorized the annual rate adjustment based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) during each of the next five years.
Amending 2017-18 Master Fee Schedule
The Council approved amendments to the City of Albany Master Fee Schedule for various permits, services and fines effective July 1, 2017
Proposed Code Amendments Section 20.24 “Development Standards” and 20.100 “Procedures” of the Albany Municipal Code
The Council introduce for first reading Ordinance No. 2017-05, amending Sections 20.24 “Development Standards” and 20.100 “Procedures” of the Albany Municipal Code
City Council Legislative Platform Policy
The Council discussed the draft Legislative Platform Policy. A subcommittee comprised of Council Member Maass and Nason was formed to further work on the draft platform policy.
