The Task Force was established by the Albany City Council. It is comprised of three appointees from each member of the Albany City Council and one appointee of each member of the Albany Board of Education, as well as five chairs or vice-chairs of each of the following commissions and committees: Parks & Recreation Commission; Planning & Zoning Commission; Sustainability Committee; Traffic & Safety Commission; and Waterfront Committee.
The Task Force process is being facilitated by Fern Tiger Associates (FTA), who has been hired by the City of Albany to communicate and engage with the community about the proposal to locate the second campus of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory at the Golden Gate Fields property, and associated proposed uses.
2. DISCUSSIONS AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON MATTERS RELATED TO THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
The Task Force will focus on development at the waterfront; monitor and assess changes to the current proposal; request and understand/analyze information related to the project's impact on the community; understand tradeoffs, options, and alternatives; and help determine both the strengths and challenges of the proposal as it adapts to address community concerns and needs.
The first meeting will include an overview of information and data gathered and analyzed to date. FTA will consider topics the group feels are critical to cover, along with information the group feels is important to receive, in order to fully understand the scope and details of the proposed development at Golden Gate Fields, which currently includes a second campus for Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL) as well as other development. The Task Force will also discuss the scheduling of upcoming meetings.
