Fun Bands
11 am-4 pm: Pony Rides are back! That's right kids they will be in the park that day. Buy an fun band for $4 and you can play all day: pony rides, rock wall, giant obstacle course, jump houses, community fun booths, dunk tanks, face painting and more.
2009 Event Schedule:
11 am: Opening
11:15: Northside Band: The Northside Band members are from Albany, Berkeley and El Cerrito. Their music director is William Beatty, who started the band in 2007. This young group of 8th graders play classical rock, rock-pop and jazz. The band has performed at the Berkeley Art Center, Freight & Salvage, Ashkenaz, Solano Stoll, Albany Middle School, local cafes and most recently at the Albany Art and Music Festival. Currently, the band is working on their first CD at Dave Bell Studio.
12:00: Barn Dancing Lessons (New): Michael Metzger will be teaching a barn dance and a line dance in the middle of Portland Ave. Everyone and all skill levels welcome to dance!
1:00: Watermelon Eating Contest: Albany Lions sponsor this popular contest every year. Prizes!
1:30: East Bay Vivarium Reptile Show: An Albany favorite-not to be missed.
2:15: Beard & Mustache Contest (New): Be there with facial hair! This contest is open to anyone who can grow, buy or create a beard or mustache! Prizes for the natural & unnatural. This is going to be fun!
2:30 Pet Show: Trophies are awarded for: Owner/Pet Look Alike, Most Patriotic, Cutest, Ugliest, Best Trick, Biggest, Smallest, Most Unusual. This year the Pet Show is sponsored by Pugnacious.
3:15: Family Games: A long time 4th of July tradition in Albany-egg toss, sack races, 3-legged race and sprints (even for adults).
