The Albany Police Department invites Albany community members to come and discuss the City’s interest in installing Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) at our Coffee with a Cop event on Tuesday, April 16th from 7-8 AM at the Albany Community Center, 1249 Marin Avenue. The cameras will only capture computer-readable images of license plates and vehicles, allowing officers to compare plate numbers and vehicles against those of stolen cars, vehicles associated to crimes, missing persons, or other criminal activity.
Note: These cameras are not facial recognition devices as they do not take photos of the occupants, nor are they tied to collecting personally identifiable information.
This is an opportunity for you to meet with your neighborhood police officers, ask questions and provide feedback in a casual, one-on-one setting.
