Neighborhood Work Session for Washington Avenue Traffic Calming & Safety Improvements
The City of Albany has been working on traffic calming and safety improvements for the Washington Ave. Corridor since 2012 when the Active Transportation Plan (ATP) was developed. A safety improvement evaluation and various traffic analyses have been conducted to address problems raised by residents at that time, which include:
1) Parking on sidewalks;
2) Cut-through traffic;
3) Speeding on a 15-mph zone; and
4) Emergency access.
The Washington Ave. corridor is challenging because of its width and topography. The evaluations resulted in the proposal for red curbs, traffic calming, and intersection treatments that impact the availability of parking in the neighborhood. At this study session, staff and project consultants will discuss potential alternatives with residents and respond to questions.
