Albany Patch

Albany's new daily community news website, Albany Patch, launched last week. The site features news about local government, community announcements, event calendars and local business directories. Albany Patch also allows residents to upload their own stories, photos, videos, events and announcements. The site is a daily news source that will help you stay better connected to what is happening in our community. Check out the site at: http://albany.patch.com

Here are some words from the site's local editor, Emilie Raguso:

"Just one month into reporting in Albany, and already our coffers are overflowing. Albany is among the smaller cities in Alameda County, but it's already clear there's no shortage of stories here. With a population that's passionate about schools, independent businesses, quality food, sustainability and building community, the hardest thing about reporting here might be deciding what to tackle first.

As Albany Patch's editor, my entire job is aimed at finding and reporting about the stories that matter most here. And I want to hear from you. I look forward to all your comments, gripes, concerns and story ideas. If you write or call me, you will always get a response.

Think you might want to write for Albany Patch? I definitely want to hear from you. I'm already in touch with a number of local writers who want to help out. But I assure you, there's always room for more.

Even if you don't want to write for the site, there are plenty of other ways to get involved, from sharing events and uploading photos to posting announcements about anything from your teen's graduation to a new dance troupe you want to organize.

My goal is for the site is to be your daily one-stop shop for everything new, important, fun and interesting happening in Albany – but it can't happen without you pitching in. And I have a feeling, given what I've already seen of Albany's commitment to volunteerism, this won't be a problem."
