City Council Meeting Summary – February 19, 2013

• A Proclamation was presented to Judy Lieberman, in recognition of her many years of service, including several years as the Assistant City Manager.

• The City Council reviewed an appeal of Planning and Zoning Commission decision approving an AT&T Wireless antenna facility at 1035 San Pablo Avenue. The Council upheld the decision of the Planning & Zoning Commission to allow for an AT&T wireless facility, however the Council added a Condition of Approval that AT&T will be required to conduct testing of radio frequency levels every two years per the City’s Ordinance.

• The City Council approved letters of support for Assembly Bills 39, 48 and 127 as introduced by Assemblymember Nancy Skinner.

• Discussion regarding the concept of a gun buy-back program for the City: the City Council requested staff conduct additional research regarding the concept of a gun buy-back program, and also research alternatives to a gun buy-back program including opportunities for targeted gun violence awareness outreach programs for at-risk youth/young adults.

The above summary is provided to serve as a brief update of action taken by the City Council as part of their Regular Meeting. The City Council meets regularly at 7:30pm on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month, at the City Hall Council Chambers – 1000 San Pablo Avenue, Albany.

The next regular meeting of the City Council will be held on March 4, 2013.
